Winston Way

Program Description

Winston Way

ASI’s Winston Way home can be found nestled onto a peaceful, minimally traveled street in picturesque New Gloucester, Maine. This home’s location is a short ride to Auburn or Gray, Maine.  The growing community of New Gloucester is rural and boasts scenic views throughout the year.  Also, close by are school and town recreation areas. Nearby are several options for grocery/retail shopping, banking, churches, local eateries, and many opportunities for activities of leisure such as the Maine Wildlife Park and State Parks for swimming, fishing and walking.

The Winston Way home is a Level I licensed program that meets all Home and Community-Based Standards of Care practices. It is a duplex designed for two individuals on each side who have been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities who may require a higher level of support for health and safety due to physical disabilities, limitations and behavioral needs.

Individuals in this home have their own private bedrooms which they are encouraged to decorate according to their personal tastes.  Each side includes an open-concept living room and kitchen area.  Comfortable living room seating promotes social gathering and interaction during the day.  The shared bathroom in each duplex is equipped with a walk-in shower.  Outside living and activity space adds to the home during seasonable weather.  The house is also equipped with ramps and ceiling lift systems on each side for easier access and mobility issues. There is also a wheelchair-accessible van.

The individuals living in this home participate in a variety of independent living skills, safety skills and numerous activities of community inclusion. Every plan of care is designed to meet an individual’s unique needs. Staff can assist individuals with medication management, activities of daily living: cooking, cleaning, physical care, hygiene, leisure activities, shopping, community activities, attending religious services, and organizing/coordinating outside service provider appointments, day programming services, and guardian visits.

ASI provides different agency wide activities throughout the year for all to join in such as bingo, Art Classes, holiday celebrations, cooking challenges (Chopped and Chili Cook-Off) and our annual Health and Wellness Day.  The Winston Way home also plans group outings for individuals living at this program as well as being known for hosting several group activities at the home such as BBQ’s, potluck lunches, outside game days, and the occasional party.

ASI-NE’s mission is to support people to experience meaningful lives by providing assistance with all aspects of daily living, health management, community integration, and safety monitoring with an individual, person-centered approach.
